There was a shock for Roberto Bautista Agut on No.1 Court on Wednesday, he dropped a set. However, the Spaniard soon recovered to defeat Guido Pella 7-5, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 to reach his first Grand Slam semi-final. There he will face Novak Djokovic who can be expected to be a much sterner test, though Bautista Agut has won three of their ten previous contests.
Bautista Agut had won his previous 13 sets this Fortnight, plus played a 14th in which he was 4-2 up when Steve Darcis retired in their second round game. When he took a two-set lead against the No.26 seed another whitewash seemed likely. Pella, though, had come from two sets down against Milos Raonic in the previous round and would not surrender easily.
